Meaning these podcast series have successfully built a consistent audience and produce content on a regular schedule. Achieving this status often requires a combination of high quality content, effective marketing tactics, and a sustained effort over time. For many podcasters, the journey is a labor of love, driven by passion for their subject matter and a desire to connect with like-minded individuals. Podcasting is not a get rich quick type of move.
Last week the Podcasting Industry Report Specifically for Independent Podcasters was released by PodMatch and it reports that only 8% of independent podcasters are actively established. Meaning they have produced over 100 episodes and have released new episodes within a 10-day spans. Consistency is key and that's hard proof.
The mind blowing part is that these podcast series account for about 95% of total podcast listenership.
The challenges faced by independent podcasters are huge. They often juggle multiple roles—creator, producer, editor, marketer and agent —all while balancing personal and professional duties. Despite these hurdles, the podcasting community is known for its creativity and resilience. Many podcasters collaborate for cross promotion. share tips and resources, and support one each others content content online.
Since most podcast listeners consume 6-9 different series each week, it makes sense how these listeners would cross over. Imagine waking up and listening to The Daily in the morning, Joe Budden in the afternoon during lunch, then Colorado Today on the way home and maybe an episode of the Last City before bed. This is becoming a common routine for folks.

However discoverablility in podcasting is problem. Most podcaster rely on social media to promote their podcast since they are unaware how to obtain promotional spots on streaming platforms like Apple, Spotify and Overcast. I found out that you can sumbit a pitch to these streaming platforms who will feature your podcasts on the home page and in other ways. This process can be time consuming and there is not gaurantee your podcast will be featured.
The rise of podcasting platforms and social media has also opened new avenues for growth. Podcasters can now reach global audiences, engage with listeners in real-time, and monetize their work through brand deals, sponsorships, merchandise, and listener donations. As the medium continues to evolve, so too do the opportunities for independent creators to thrive and make their voices heard.
